72 hours of travel from Europe, we stand in the middle of the tropical jungle. That is 8,000 plant species and 40°C! Over a thousand years ago you would stand in the middle of the Mayan Kingdom.

We were fortunate to meet some of the aproximate 800 remaining guardians of the forest. They are the last descendents of the ancient Mayan and call themselves the Hach Winik in Mayan which means: “The real people”. They are a sublime example of sustainable living…

Are you ready to discover “The Mayan prophecy” ?
….
5,000 of the 10,000 km² of tropical rainforest have disappeared in the last 50 years in Chiapas, Mexico. Forces that surround the last Maya’s threaten their very existence. Once one of the most precious forests on earth, it may disappear together with thousands of years of tradition and culture.

It is an unequal battle of 1,000 against the outside world .
Even in the wet jungle maize grows now up to 2 meters instead of 3 meters because of climatic changes. It is getting 40% drier and 2°C hotter the last 6 months, country wide.
Global warming will endure, but that does not mean that 10% of all species have to become on the verge of extinction by 2050 as more land is used to raise crops and livestock.

… Join us to give their forest back!

What is next?

The Lacandon are wise and highly organized people. Let’s take them as an example!
They do not compete with capitalism (many of them don’t read or write). As long as they have to living form, they are happy. They don’t need more money.

In the coming months we will start restoring the forest of a Lacandon family at Lacanja (Lacaja means the “water snake” in Maya). Kin embodies a thousand years of Mayan experience and together we will run a pilot project with a mixture of peppertree, aceibo, chewing gum tree, balsam tree, and many other species.

We can take an example on these guardians of the forests, and masters of sustainability.

ps:Country wide 900 000 people move yearly because of climate and 100 000 emigrate
